Phuping Palace is the Royal winter residence in Chiang Mai where the Royal Family stays during seasonal visits to the people in northern part of the country. The Phuping Palace is also the Royal Guest House for prominent State visitors from abroad. In the past Their Majesties welcomed or granted Royal audience to State visitors only in the capital , Bangkok. Phuping Palace was built in 1961. The construction started initially with only the royal residence building and the Guest House. The other buildings were added at a later date.
The Palace may only be viewed from the grounds but the gardens and reservoir are very beautiful. The rose garden can be quite spectacular.
